The debut album ‘Double Helix DNA’ by producer/DJ Optimus from Rotterdam, NL! Hip Hop beats rich with Jazz and Funk influences, Turntablism, Electronics and a whole squadron of guests, including Rasco, Prince Po and El Da Sensei, are the main ingredients of this diverse debut.
Guests on 'Double Helix DNA' are MC’s Rasco, El Da Sensei (The Artifacts), Prince Po (Organized Konfusion), MC Rise (Demigodz), Gumshoe (The Proov), GMB, Braille, Ill Pro & Maylay Sparks, instrumentalists Nicolas Kummert, Budy Mokoginta & Bas van der Wal, DJ's Grazzhoppa & Mace and singers iET & Mo. Despite it’s many featurings, 'Double Helix DNA' is an album characterized by coherency, partly caused by the usage of 'vintage-gear'. The SP12, MPC and Microkorg belong to the standard equipment of DJ Optimus. Besides that, he frequently uses turntables, all kinds of other instruments and the play of guestmusicians. The artwork is from the hands of Mister Adam. Budy Mokoginta (Mokosound) mastered the album.
Optimus (Neels Smeekens, Rotterdam) is active as a DJ/producer since halfway the nineties. Besides scratching and rockin’ parties, Optimus produces music and gives scratchworkshops for the HipHopHuis. Him and Ill Pro are Hip Hop-formation Ill Productionz. Also, Optimus DJ’s for different groups like iET and The Proov. Optimus composed, performed and/or played together with Grazzhoppa, Toots Thielemans, Eric Vloeimans, VSOP and Aka Moon, among others. In 2011, he released the EP ‘Used Future’ with DJ Mace as dynamic duo OptiMace.
